Daily Choices, Lasting Impact

Building The Garden
My wife had the vision of a garden in front of the house. She had the complete style, design and layout in her head, ready to be built. The journey was full of surprises, but ultimately finished with something we would both enjoy. What I didn't anticipate: I would become the gardener.

Getting Started
Somewhat of a blank slate, except for the trees, existing "flower beds" and what I soon discovered: poison ivy.

Beds, Fencing and Irrigiation
Fortunately, we were able to save all oak trees and only remove the cedars. Installed electric and irrigation throughout the garden. Decided on raised beds in order to provide high quality soil.
My least favorite job: Staining
It's always been my least favorite part of any project, but starting in 100 degree heat just made it that much worse. Fortunately, using a paint sprayer saves a lot of time and really does a great job.

I owe the entire design and color theme to my wife, but I have to admit, I think it looks great! It really allows you to see the colors of the plants in bloom.

Family Project
It was truly a family project. My daughters and son-in-laws helped all along the way. From building the beds, installing irrigation, loading the 50+ yards of soil and laying the gravel base.

My favorite part is always seeing the littles contribute. It's great for them to understand the value of hard work, but also see their joy when the project completes.
Having a little Fun

My son wanted to decorate the garden for halloween. It was a lot of fun and allowed for the littles to add some creativity.

I'm still finding plastic spiders on occasion.

Job Complete
A garden is never complete, but we're enjoying the harvest!
